Wings of hide

A glider of hides and poles for stepping off mountains, creeks that run all the way from their springs, and smoke over the longhouses.

Some of the best views in Eras are from the tops of its mountains. Until today, the only way down was the way you came up.

A glider of hides and poles

Now you can craft a hide glider: hides stretched over a frame of poles, with a crossbar to hang from. Carry one and step off a height. It opens as you fall, and from there it goes where you look. Push on and it flies faster and sinks quicker. Hold back and it drifts. It folds when you land, touch water, or jump.

From a peak a couple of hundred metres high, a glide lasts over half a minute and carries you a good way across the valley. It isn't historically accurate, and we're fine with that: it's a way to see the world, and a way to cross it. Others see you hanging from the straps as you pass overhead. It stays folded in battles, so it's no escape from a fight.

Creeks that run from their springs

Rivers in Eras follow the land: they start as creeks high in the valleys and grow on the way down. The first stretch below a spring was broken, though. A creek's water stood at its full height while its bed was only partly cut. In some places that left a dry stone gully under a waterfall. In others the water stood over the grass in sheets and spikes.

Now the channel opens just below the spring and runs shallow, and the water never stands higher than its own banks. Across a whole world, the places where water floated at a channel's edge went from about four hundred to a handful.

Smoke over the longhouses

From a village on, the longhouses' hearths smoke through their roofs: thin grey columns you can see from the next hill on a still day.
